You can visit this sight on tour:

  • Excursion-ethnographical tour - "The Legends of Lake Teletskoye and Mountain Shoria"
  • On the right bank of the river Chulyshman there is the Akkurum tract. Usually “kurums” mean accumulation of huge stone blocks and debris of solid rocks. The special thing about kurums is that they slowly climb down the mountainside. Here in the Karasu canyon the wonderful forms of landscape are located which got the queer name – Stone Mushrooms.

From the scientific point of view they were made because of denudation of heterogeneous rocks. The caps of Stone Mushrooms are made of stronger stone flag and stems – of more friable deposits. Stems were exposed by destruction more strongly by water flowing down the hills, so these “mushroom” forms were created.

These “mushrooms” are up to 7m high and diameter of the “cap” is up to 2m. They stand for decades and hundreds years, then they disappear replaced by new “mushrooms”. It is wonderful that these “mushrooms” keep growing!
